Social Development and Tourism

Vision

To ensure consistent and conducive measures to establish and promote local economic activities and employment generation for local people in the region. To promote the profile of the Fezile Dabi District Municipality in order to establish a positive District Municipal image with all stakeholders in the region and all levels of government in the country.

Objectives

  • To affect the environment positively so that businesses can be established, grown and sustained in the Northern Free State region.
  • To development LED strategies that will create jobs for previously disadvantaged persons in local communities.
  • To build the capacity in LED units of Local Municipalities in the region.
  • To establish a comprehensive data base of all economic activities, businesses, industries, skills and natural resources in the region.
  • To render a comprehensive business support service to local potential SMME’s and other businesses.
  • To identify opportunities for new businesses through effective research and gap analyses programmes.
  • To coordinate local economic development activities and programmes within all four local municipalities in the region.
  • To maintain positive media relations in order to promote the District Municipality,
  • To ensure an effective two-communication channel to and from local residents, levy payers and all levels of government.
  • To render an ongoing tourism information service in order to promote the Northern Free State region as a weekend destination.
  • To assist emerging tourism facilities with special reference to township areas in order to link and expose such facilities to possible market shares and existing tourism facilities in the tourism industry.
  • To guide development of the Vredefort Structure as a world-renowned geological study geographical sensitive conservation area.
